Batten & Allen make big investment in Agie wire EDM technology.

This latest investment – an Agiecut Vertex high-performance, duo-wire EDM machine has been installed in the company’s advanced technology toolroom where it is being used to produce complex and high-accuracy tooling and progression dies.

Tools and dies used to manufacture (stamp-out) miniature precision parts are characterised by their small size and their complex profiles. Intricate features – slots, apertures and tapers - to micron accuracy are not only expected…they are demanded.

The Agiecut Vertex has been designed to meet these production challenges.

Designed and constructed - similar to a measuring machine for high accuracy and repeatability – the Vertex rests on 3 shock-absorbing points.

High-accuracy is also ensured by controlling any threat of thermal distortion. As well as all potential heat source elements being well insulated and optimally cooled by air or water – they are also well away from the EDM working area.

The Vertex is a duo-wire EDM machine. The machine has 2 wire spools (each 8kg) accommodating wire diameters from 0.20 to 0.02mm. The use of such fine wire means that the Vertex can be relied upon to cut small, complex shapes and features to a high degree of accuracy and a Ra 0.05 µm surface finish. The duo-wire system plus the machine’s automatic wire thread capability ensures high-productivity and manufacturing flexibility.

As with all Agie high-performance EDM machines – the Vertex is equipped with the popular object-oriented AGIEVISION control and new, high-efficiency IPG generator.

Batten and Allen are pleased to announce BS EN ISO 9001:2000 accreditation
